Try SAFARI eBooks now!

Safari Books Online, a collection of IT and programming related ebooks, is available now.  The Library subscribes to over 160 titles from your favourite Tech publishers such as O’Reilly, Microsoft, SAMS, JohnWiley, Prentice Hall and others.

You can even search within the fulltext by code fragments. 

There are books about Adobe, Java, MySQL, Linux and more!

 

Access is via the UTAS Library Databases page under “S” for Safari http://www.utas.edu.au/library/info/dbase/index.html

Access is limited to 2 users at a time.

Stephen Abram’s public lecture ‘Knowledge, information and the 21st century’ is now available for download or streaming via the university’s Lectopia system.
You can listen and watch it in a variety of formats online or you can download it and put it on your iPod. Just click on the link, then select your preferred format and network speed, and click Open. A new window will open, just click agree to the copyright notice and the video or audio will begin. If you have selected Download just right click on the link and select ’save target as’ then choose where you want to download it to, then open the file with your preferred media player.

Using your iPhone in the library

The instructions to set up wireless access for your iPhone and iPod Touch are now available at http://uana.utas.edu.au

A great little application that you might like to use in the library is iBuy. You can access reviews and information on books by putting in the barcode of the book (not the Library barcode, the publisher barcode).

Stephen Abram will roller-coast the audience through the changes that are being wrought by Googlers, the Millenials and Information 3.0 – what will the next generation of the web bring? Stephen is a leading lighthouse thinker and trend forecaster in the world of libraries and information. His visit to Tasmania is a joint initiative of UTAS Library and the State Library of Tasmania.
